CHANGE OF ADDRESS/TELEPHONE

Students who have a change of address or telephone number, should report the change to the office IMMEDIATELY. It is vital that the school can reach the parents/guardians by telephone in case of EMERGENCY.

CELL PHONES

Cell phones, bluetooth headphones, and smart watches are not allowed during school hours. They should be off and in your locker between 8:10 a.m. and 2:55 PM. If a parent needs to contact their student, a message can be left with the office between the time of 7:30am - 4:00pm. Students may use the main office phone to contact a parent or guardian. Please view the cell phone/electronic device policy within our middle school student handbook.

PBIS

We’re a PBIS (Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports) school. Meaning, we develop systems to recognize and reward students displaying positive behaviors. We also work collaboratively to support students as they practice new skills and strategies to display positive behavior in our school. Students are encouraged to be Ready, Responsible, and Respectful in all interactions with people and in any environment of our school.

ADVISORY S/U GRADING SYSTEM

Students at PVMS will receive Satisfactory or Unsatisfactory grades in their 6-8 grade Advisory/Homeroom each quarter. This will help hold students accountable for their performance in Advisory/Homeroom class and provide feedback to parents if students are not following daily expectations. We will utilize the following schedule for our 6 - 8th grade advisory.

  • Monday - Organization and Share Your World: Students will participate in activities to support organization of their physical materials and academic daily expectations. This may include exploring digital or physical planner use, organizing Schoology and Google Drive for efficient usage, preparing for upcoming assignments, and working on missing assignments. Our student News Crew will also provide weekly videos each Monday containing important information for students and staff. Students will also participate in community building activities to get to know each other and build connections with peers and their adult advisor.
  • Tuesday – Character Strong: Students will participate in the Character Strong curriculum where they will work on various social and emotional learning targets.
  • Friday – Community Building & Friday Fun Day: Students will participate in community building activities and be supported with organization.

Intervention, Extension and Connection (VIEW Time)

  • Wednesday and Thursday - Sixth through eighth grade students will participate in intervention, extension or connection (VIEW) sessions each week from 8:15 to 8:40. Students will be selected by their teachers to attend intervention or enrichment lessons to support their course related work.

Drop Off and Pick Up

Doors open at 7:50am - Students are not allowed to remain at school unsupervised.

Please pull as far forward as possible before students exit or enter your vehicle. As displayed in the photo below, pull all the way up to the yellow marked line on the first image. Once your vehicle is stationed along the sidewalk, it is expected and encouraged that your student will get out at that point and walk into the school. This allows more students to be dropped off at a time and will keep traffic moving. We understand everyone is on a tight schedule so if we all work together, we can make this a smooth, quick, and safe process. We strongly discourage the practice of dropping off/picking up students in the middle of the parking lot as students are then required to cross the moving traffic. This practice puts your child at great risk of being harmed as they cross traffic to get to the sidewalk. It also greatly frustrates your fellow parents/guardians that are also dropping off or picking up their children. We ALL need to work together to create a safe environment for our students. Following this process exactly as described will allow for a quicker drop off/pick up process and will increase safety for all students and parents. Thank you for your cooperation!

Walkers and Bike Riders

Electric scooters and electric bicycles are not permitted on the school grounds. We want to ensure that all students arrive at school in a safe manner. Students that will walk or pedal bike to school from neighborhoods to the south of our building should follow the bike path and sidewalk from 80th St, along the sidewalk that runs through the Prairie View Elementary grounds and onto our Prairie View Middle School grounds. Bike racks are located at the front of the school building to the left of the main entrance.Students that are pedal biking or walking to school must refrain from lingering on the elementary campus or interacting with the elementary students both before and after school. Students should remain on the sidewalk space and cross through the elementary grounds to the middle school grounds in a swift and respectful manner.
