Attendance
Attendance
Prairie View Middle School recognizes the direct relationship between attendance and achievement. Regular attendance in class is necessary if students are to receive adequate guidance through their classwork and benefit from the instruction. ALL STUDENTS ARE EXPECTED TO ATTEND CLASS EVERY SCHOOL DAY. Click the ISD Attendance Visual for parent and student responsibilities as well as county and state reporting requirements.
Two options for submitting an Absence, Late Arrival, or Early Dismissal
We require you notify the front office by 1:00pm for early departures or changes to dismissal plans, to allow for proper processing, approval and to ensure we can get the message to your student. We can not guarantee your student will receive any information of last minute changes to their dismissal after 1:00pm. Please plan accordingly.
1. Visit Campus Portal and use the top left Menu button to access More > Absence Requests. Available 24/7. (see example screenshot below)
- Select the student(s) you are reporting absent.
- Use the Excuse dropdown list to choose the reason the student(s) will be absent.
- Choose an Absence Type for a full day, arrive late, or leave early.
- Enter the absence day and time. If a full day, enter the first and last day the student will not be at school (can be the same day).
- Enter Comments about the reason for absence.
- Choose the Submit button at bottom when finished.

2. Email us at pvms.attendance@isd728.org. Please include the following with your email:
- Student’s name
- Date of absence(s)
- Reason for absence
- Name of person reporting the absence
Late arrival procedure:
- You may drop your student off at the front door. They will sign themselves in at the front office and you will see the time they signed in on Campus Portal.
Early Pick-up procedure:
- Pull up curbside and call the front office letting them know you have arrived. Once your student is ready they will walk out and meet you curbside.
- Front office: 763-274-6260
Student is going home from the health office:
- Once you arrive at the curb in front of the school, call the health office to let them know you have arrived. Your student will sign-out and walk out the front door to meet you curbside.
- Health Office: 763-274-6207
General Information about attendance:
- All students and parents are responsible for making sure the student attends class and is punctual every day school is in session.
- Parents are responsible for contacting the school or by sending a note within 48 hours if the student is absent.
- The administration will be the final authority in determining whether an absence will be excused or not.
- A doctor’s note is required for absences that extend beyond 3 consecutive days OR 10 total absences due to medical reasons. The doctor’s note must be provided within 3 days of the request.
- Students must have a doctor’s statement to be excused from physical education for an extended period of time.
- Students are responsible for making up missed assignments.
- Students must check-in the front office upon late arrival.
- Parents will be notified of unexcused absences through the automated calling system. If you receive an automated call saying your student was marked absent from school or class, please check your Parent Portal for more details on the absence. If your student feels they were marked absent in error, please clarify it with their teacher, not the office.
- As required by state and county law, the school will send letters/emails to parents/guardians at regular intervals to notify them of excessive unexcused absences. Letters/Emails may be sent home after only 3 partial or full days and the respective county will be alerted. When a student accumulates seven full or partial days of unexcused absences, it is considered habitual truancy and the school will file truancy with county Social Services and/or court system for truancy.
- Students that incur 15 consecutive full days of unexcused absences will automatically be unenrolled from ISD 728 per state statute.
